Doom (often written uppercase DOOM ) is a video game created by id Software and published in 1993 and is, along with Wolfenstein 3D, one of the best known examples of the genre first person shooter (or FPS-First person shooter). Combining a significant use of 3D graphics, simple gameplay style and fast and a high rate of violence, in a short time has become incredibly popular,  such that for several years this kind of games was normally called “Doom” (or Doom clone in English), a term that is used even today. in 1997 it was estimated that the shareware version (which includes the first three episodes of the game) has been picked up and played by at least 15 million people.
Doom has had numerous adjustments: made originally for the DOS operating system was ported to Windows 95 at the launch of Microsoft DirectX, as well as on most consoles available. Several are also followed, starting with Doom II: Hell on Earth of 1994, The Ultimate Doom (1995), comprising the first three original episodes, plus a fourth novel, Thy Flesh Consumed. Final Doom of 1996, two separate episodes (titled The Plutonia Experiment and TNT: Evilution) developed by id Software. Master Levels for Doom II (1995), a collection of additional levels, and Doom 64 (1997), a remake for the Nintendo 64. The last chapter of the game, Doom 3, released in 2004, has abandoned the outdated technology of first chapters, emerged in the early 1990s, to embrace the next generation of PC and console; in 2005 was released a spin-off for mobile phones called Doom RPG, while one for iPhone, titled Doom Resurrection, was released in 2009.
